Exchange and interaction

“Installation has been defined by its refusal to accept fixed boundaries. Its experimental edge has led artists to examine the boundaries of other disciplines.” Installation artists have found opportunities to collaborate with other areas of study like anthropology, science and technology which creates a wider area of knowledge than just researching the visual aspects. “Installation is seen as moving beyond the physical boundary of a single space into a realm of negotiated interactivity and simultaneity.” (Thames and Hudson)

Ernesto Neto has incorporated his work with an architectural perspective by articulating spaces in buildings representing bodily membranes. The works are highly sensual and the experience that is created is heightened by the aroma of turmeric or cloves which visitors take in before the installation itself.
